SL for people & content. Your own PC for dicking around. OSGrid for more interesting people, but you'll have to spend hours looking for them.

I was on one called The Great Canadian Grid for a bit. They were pretty chill there, but the small, privately-run ones tend to implode after a while.

Can connect your private sim to LAN though. Which works in case of my community (former student home, now all working people).

I love osgrid and have six regions there.I would love to be able to make mesh objects and upload them because there isn't much about to play with.A lot of the stores supplying items for free have closed down since the big crash there. I wish some other creators would return and sell some exciting stuff.i would love to make clothing there too. No doubt things will improve as people return. It can be a bit lonely over there. I have been to some amazing sims though...built by talented builders and scripters.

There is no "best grid". There are 100's each with their own niche / people / goals / options. Is same question as best viewer, best operating system, etc. There is no correct answer.

After SL, OSgrid is the largest and oldest grid around, and runs the very latest opensim code. Next to OSgrid there are several 100's of free grids, small or big, open or closed, commercial or free grids, roleplay grids, grids in certain languages, educational grids, even closed military grids. And you can run your own if desired, so if your "niche" doesn't exist, you can try and build your own community.

All people that claim "this one is the best" are talking biased crap imho. uFckr
If you're bored or always lonely, cant it be that might have to do more with your personality, than the technology you use....?

In their base, all grids are all built on the exact same engine.
Most smaller grids just don't age very well, many are gone after a few weeks / months / years. When it grows, the enthousiast hobby becomes a unpaid job, and the admins give up eventually. And if grid disables their asset servers, your shit is gone. Important stuff should be hosted on standalones, not in somone elses / any public grid.

People might like certain grids residents, their setup implementation, or the stuff available inworld, but at the bottom line we all run the same software.
So just find a grid you like / that fits your expectations.
