I have no idea about KDU or what is it

Is it a source code?
I`m sorry for asking so much.

the second life viewers use two different bits of software built into the viewer to encode and decode images, the graphics you see on your screen.  one of them is called OpenJpeg and it is open source, and free.  the other one is from Kakadu Software and is called KDU for short, and it is very much not free.  it is also faster, tho there have been improvements in openjpeg in recent times.  the Linden Lab official viewer, and Firestorm, and the Inworldz viewer, have a license and they use KDU.

this is a regular viewer installer, you download it and install it like you would any viewer.  the difference is that i have patched the not-free and faster KDU software into it, instead of openjpeg.  and after you do, dont paste your info from Help/About to people, because it says KDU in it and it shouldn't, because Singularity is not ever supposed to be able to have it, the Singularity developers don't have a license to use it.  and neither do i but you know where you are.  Big Grin
Don't we though!  Big Grin Good to keep in mind nonetheless, I myself ~do~ need to be reminded of things like this , especially this, so thank you!

heh. enthusiastic bunch aren't y'all? 42 downloads as i write this and three thank yous, one from a spamface.

anyway i came here to say, i have just gotten some exciting news, and i have some of my own to share.

first the news i got:  i hadn't noticed it but i just saw in their chat that Singularity has been working on, and just merged a branch of their code that upgrades from FmodEx to Fmod Studio.  so that's one thing i'm having a nerdgasm about. Big Grin

next, the news -I- have:  i am a stubborn son of a bitch, and i would not let go of KDU, though i did take a break from it for a bit.  i now have KDU 7.2.1 working in my Singularity builds and in my OldSkool builds, without blurry uploads.  and, as with the KDU 6, when i'm satisfied i have it cleaned up and presentable enough, and it didn't kill my beta tester, i'll post what i did to get it working, and put up one of my Singularity builds.  tho i will probably not post it in "Legal Viewers" next time. Smile

also, I NEEEEEED A LINUX KDU!!! come on , anyone?? i know somebody has to have one.

and i'm toying with the idea of trying to hammer a bootleg MacOS into a virtual machine, but right now the only thing i can find about that is not Maverick, its the next older one (Lion? dont recall) so it's kinda not worth it yet.

Okay, KDU in SG 1.5 is not actually illegal. It's just that it is frowned upon by the lab. The problem with KDU being used in a SG 1.5 viewer was that the lab was not supposed to include the .DLL file in SG 1.5 and they got into trouble with Kakadu for that because of Emerald flaunting their highly malicious version of EMKDU.DLL. But, using KDU in SG 1.5 nah it's not illegal. And, BTW Thank you!!!!! I hate Singularity's OJ 1.5 it is seriously broken. So, thank you for making this build. I hope to see future builds of this Big Grin

i have a new build of it with kdu 7 and up to date singularity source but i dont wanna post it till i get a couple beta testers' word on it how it goes on their systems.

using it isn't the illegal thing. the illegal thing is that i am not supposed to have the source in order -to- use it unless i bought it. Wink and i dont know about the licensing schemes different rates but one price i have seen at random is like six hundred bucks. they don't need to hold their breath.

I would beta test for you. And, from what I was told by Oz Linden the licensing issue with using KDU on SG 1.5 was Linden Labs F up. They were not supposed to allow the .DLL file to be exposed instead they were supposed to make it so KDU was no longer a DLL file. That's like CoolVL the viewer that barely anyone uses it still includes the LLKDU.DLL file with the viewer. But, Linden Lab has made it clear they don't care as there is just not enough people using it for them to give a damn.

Oh, forgot to mention I've been using the viewer all day and no problems with textures loading or anything. I've got my graphics at ultra settings and it's working like a charm! I'm like super happy that someone decided to do this. I honestly cannot stand using Firestorm's bloated UI system and I prefer a true V1 experience and I am so happy that I can use Singularity again without the issues of OJ 1.5.2 Big Grin
