OldSkool with KDU 7
#1
Star
Viewer is from 02-24-2015 - DOES NOT RENDER ANYTHING BENTO

Simms graciously opened the source, and also specifically gave me okay to post viewers I build from it, and he has a lot more on his plate far as viewers and working on them taking time than I do, so in support of him and to help the Goons community as a whole, here y'all go, my own build from Simms' source, of OldSkool, with KDU 7 rolled in, and the same couple of minor tweaks referenced in my Singularity KDU 7 thread.

* Animation speed control and on-the-fly resync, courtesy of Firestorm; it's under the World menu and can be torn off.

* Version and build info shows in the titlebar.  I saw a guy talking in chat about that and thought it would be handy to know that stuff without opening Help/About to see it.

In addition, a few very minor fixes: the "teleport to" button on the radar now works, as that was just an error in the skin files; a minor fix to a variable name ( llround > llmath::llround ) in the source, which I have no idea if or what was affected by it but I saw it so I fixed it; and the viewer build/version spoof info can now be changed and will stick without shutting down and restarting the viewer to apply it.

[EDIT TO ADD:]  BEFORE I GET ASKED, NO, THE SOURCE TO KDU 7 ITSELF IS NOT IN THE SOURCE DOWNLOAD.  Those of you who want it it's here in the "Compile Your Own" section.  Only change I made to KDU itself when I used it was repackaging to modify its extract paths, which can also or alternatively be handled in the cmake files, and i did it because of trying to work with the new Singularity build system.

as with my Singularity build, Linux 32 bit will be along soon as I have time, but I gotta make the spoofed branding work with the new build system first; it already does in Windows but there's something amiss in Linux that I haven't had time to puzzle out yet.

and again let me thank my wonderful partner who has been right there with me in all this endeavor. Smile

Great tweaks, very stable for me, and is my preferred botter-viewer atm...and I swear I'm not biased hehe..

So pardon my ignorance, but this is an update to Old Skool?

Yes and no. It's from the exact source of OldSkool, excepting the very minor couple of fixes i found to do in it as mentioned, and with the Singularity source brought up to date as of a couple of weeks ago when Singularity Alpha 6425 hit their build server. so all of OldSkool about it remains as it was already, but it gains the fixes to Singularity that have been done, and it gains KDU image handling. it was stable for me already, personally, Singularity almost always has been, but even for me it does seem even a bit -more- stable. but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, grab it and have a go for yourself.

[edit to add] While this is of no relevance to OldSkool functionality, I forgot to mention that also as a result of the merge, it now uses Fmod Studio instead of FmodEx.

oh and let me add a note here on the thread it belongs on, since i said it on my other thread. i am going to post a Linux build of this, if i can get the branding working properly, but because I don't have a Linux KDU source yet the Linux build will be OpenJpeg. I don't know yet myself how it will do speed wise, the one I am already using that i built from singularity alpha 6338 is decently fast, that's the last one before the build system got reworked. but if the results of the Windows version are any indication, there will be a little improvement, nothing to jump up and down about but i'll take anything i can get. i might try this flagg............ i was really disappointed in sombrero which crashed on me every couple minutes and it became so annoying i just decided to delete it after only using it for about 1 hour..... i never used a viewer so unstable. Sad i had had high hopes for it since ds is not loading The Shops mesh project mesh faces or people's mesh bodies properly.

Did you use the workaround to see fitted mesh *and* if necessary, roll back to an older AMD driver?

Likewise, I had a lot of trouble with Sombrero crashing on XML import/export, although it seemed to handle mesh better than DarkStorm (even with the temporal fix). Some mesh bodies / body parts look so ridiculous on DS that it makes me glad I'm still rocking the SL bits and bobs! =)
