Blender is OpenSource and comes equipped to make and edit sculpties.

It is not easy to use (like any other 3d editor) but it has about everything you could want!

Just one warning:

If you have never used Open Source stuff before, DO NOT use the "pre-release", alpha or beta version!

Right now blender is advertising V 2.5 Alpha 2 - DO NOT USE IT, but get the older 2.49b release for your machine and OS!

Stick with the "release version even if it doesn't have all the neat things from the new version. Use the "pre-release" stuff AFTER you are familiar with how the software should work.

One of the problems people have with Open Source software is that you can go as far out on the "bleeding edge" as you want. Beginners often do that and then get into trouble because something doesn't work right and they don't even know it. That is fine if you are ready for it, but if you want "commercial" grade stability then stick with the "released" version.
You can also use this with it Prim dot Blender (Prim.Blender)
